Making It Work: How I Overcome the Struggles of Crafting in a Tiny Space

Making It Work: How I Overcome the Struggles of Crafting in a Tiny Space

Hey again, creative souls!

It’s Amanda — your Craftin’ Wife — back with some real-life solutions to the struggles I shared in my last post about the hardships of crafting in an RV. Because while the challenges are real (hello, no table space and glitter in your socks), I’ve found some creative ways to keep the magic alive without losing my mind.

If you’re crafting in a small space — an RV, a tiny house, or just a corner of your living room — these tips are for you.

✂️ 1. Create a “Craft-Anywhere” Kit

I keep a small tote packed with basics: scissors, tape runner, a few favorite papers, markers, and pens. This kit goes anywhere — outside, the dashboard, or the picnic table. It's my secret weapon for staying creative on days when space is tight.

Bonus Tip: Rotate supplies seasonally so you're not hoarding things you won’t use right now.

📦 2. Use Smart Storage (and Label Everything!)

Stackable drawers, zip pouches, rolling carts, and over-the-door organizers are lifesavers. Clear bins make it easy to see what you’ve got, and labeling helps future you find it fast.

Craftin’ Wife Wisdom: Keep a small “in use” bin for your current project so you’re not dragging out 10 containers every time.

🧼 3. Turn Clean-Up Into a Ritual

Instead of dreading it, I treat clean-up like the final creative step. I light a candle, put on a playlist, and give everything a home. Bonus: It clears my mental space too.

Tip: Use silicone mats or trays to help contain mess and make cleanup faster.

🔌 4. Have a Plan for Power + Weather

I plan Cricut days or glue gun projects around the weather or our power availability. Rainy days are for hand lettering or journaling. Sunny days? Time to cut vinyl and press shirts outside!

RV Hack: A fold-out outdoor table turns into a temporary craft station when the weather’s nice — and gives you so much more room to play.

💖 5. Protect Your Creative Energy

Creativity can burn out fast when space is limited and life is chaotic. So I give myself grace. Some days, creativity looks like prepping a kit or reorganizing supplies. Other days, it’s full-on sparkle-and-glue joy.

Gentle Reminder: You don’t have to be productive every day to be creative. Just make space for it when you can.

Crafting in a small space takes patience, flexibility, and a little extra creativity — but it’s 100% possible. And honestly? Some of my favorite projects were made with my feet on the dinette bench, one hand on my glue gun, and a cat trying to sit on my vinyl.

You’ve got this, crafty friend. Small space or not — your creativity belongs anywhere you do.

Still struggling with something? Let me know in the comments — I’ll help however I can!

With love (and organized chaos),
Amanda, The Craftin’ Wife 💖
